The formidable His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum/Dhruba Selvaratnam/William Buick combination were in double form at Jebel Ali on Friday afternoon at a meeting sponsored entirely by the UK Shadwell division of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum's breeding operation.
Otaared was a dual 1400m winner last season and added his third course and distance win with an impressive effort in a handicap over that distance. Buick held his mount up in rear before allowing him to make smooth progress just over halfway.
With 200m to go it was just a case of when he let Otaared go, which was 100m out and he quickened nicely to win well. Buick was impressed: "He does travel like a very nice horse and that was a good performance under a big weight. Hopefully he can build on this."
Selvaratnam added: "He is a horse we really like and there is a race back here for him in three weeks."
Earlier Kessraa had won the 1600m handicap for the same connections.
The 1200m conditions race, the feature, was won comfortably by Alsadeek for trainer Doug Watson under Pat Dobbs in the colours of Malih Al Basti.
The duo stormed clear to deny stable companion Classic Blade and the trainer was delighted: "That is a great result for the yard and both horses have run great races. Alsadeek does love these conditions and seems to go very well fresh. Hopefully both can have good seasons with the Dubai International Racing Carnival always an option."
Planetary Motion turned the concluding 1000m handicap into a procession for Abdulla bin Huzaim under Carlos Sandoval, while Palm Court won the opening1m1f handicap for Champion Trainer Ali Rashid Al Raihe with Royston Ffrench in the saddle.
The Satish Seemar-trained Rochefort became the first horse to win twice this season when landing a second 1400m course handicap. Richard Mullen was in the saddle on both occasions.
