Sponsored by Meydan, Thursday evening's Meydan fixture was the first of three Spring Meets and the official feature, the 1600m Meydan “Prime”, was won by the Abdulla bin Huzaim-trained Saboteur under Jesus Rosales.
Never far off the pace, the duo hit the front close home to deny Stalking Shadow who would have supplied Satish Seemar and Harry Bentley with a double.
Rosales said: "I was always going nicely behind the pace and he quickened well when I asked him late in the straight."
The longest ever race on the Meydan All-Weather was the 2800m Meydan “Farriers” and Seemar and Bentley combined to win that with Achill Bay who was recording consecutive victories under the apprentice having won at Abu Dhabi on his previous start.
Bentley said: "They went very fast and that has really suited him. The yard are in such good form."
Seemar did complete a double when Radegund Abbey won the concluding 2000m Meydan “Shiba” under Richard Mullen who said: "That was a good effort as it looked a decent little race and he is progressing nicely. Hopefully there is more to come."
The opening 1200m maiden, the Meydan Turf Lounge was won by Strecker for trainer Stephane Chevalier and ridden by Gregory Benoist having only his third ride in the UAE and the pair then doubled up with Ceedwell in the following handicap over the same course and distance.
Chevalier was obviously delighted: "The filly (Ceedwell) was a disappointment last time so we have dropped her in trip and put the visor on. It has worked!
"Strecker pleased us on his first start and we were hopeful of a big run and he did not let us down. It is nice to get a double on the board just before the Dubai International Racing Carnival."
The following 1600m Meydan Tiered Restaurant produced a great result for trainer Musabah al Muhairi and owner Jaber Abdulalh who saw their pair Zafeen Speed and Fantastic Dubai finishing first and second.
Wayne Smith rode the winner, with brother Dave on the runner-up and Wayne said: "This is a really nice young horse and one we have high hopes for."
