Last weekend’s Etihad Airways Junior Rugby Festival marked the start of the inaugural HSBC Youth Rugby Series across the Middle East. More than 2,000 children from 161 teams took part in the two-day festival, the first of four events that make up this new pan-Middle East competition.

The top four teams who scored the most points across the designated age categories were Arabian Knights 2’s (U8), Dubai Exiles 1’s (U10), Dubai Exiles 1’s (U12) and Dubai Exiles 1’s (U14). Teams that won additional bonus points for the HSBC Spirit of Rugby Award – awarded for the teams that best exemplified the values of teamwork and camaraderie - were  Bahrain Rugby Club (U10), Kuwait Saracens Rugby Club (U12) and Abu Dhabi Harlequins 4's (U14).

New for the 2011/12 season the HSBC Youth Rugby Series brings together four junior rugby festivals sponsored by the bank across the Middle East. The most consistently successful teams at the four festivals – the Etihad Airways Junior Rugby Festival in Abu Dhabi, the HSBC Junior Rugby Festival Qatar, the HSBC Junior Rugby Festvial Dubai and the HSBC Junior Rugby Festival Bahrain - across U8, U10, U12, and U14 age groups will win a VIP training session with an HSBC rugby ambassador and a new set of rugby kit for their team.
