Al Nasr, Lega Italy, RC Lens and Al Wasl got their campaigns off on a winning note in the 2nd Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Under-19 International Football Tournament being held here till April 16.
Al Nasr scored a deserving 3-1 win over Dubai Club and Lega Italy powered their way to an identical 3-1 win over Al Shabab in the two Group A matches on the Al Nasr Club ground, while RC Lens toyed with Hatta Club for a 6-0 romp and Al Wasl secured a hard-fought 2-1 win over Al Ahli in Group B of this competition.
The second edition of this popular junior tournament has attracted four foreign teams who are playing with the six Dubai clubs in two separate groups.
Al Shabab, Al Nasr and Dubai Club are in Group A along with Lega Pro, Italy and Al Jahraa FC, Kuwait, while Al Wasl, Al Ahli and Hatta Club are in Group B along with Racing Club De Lens from France and Birmingham FC from the United Kingdom.
The preliminary matches for Group A are being held at Al Nasr Club and those from Group B are being played at Al Wasl Club.
At the end of the preliminary round of matches, the top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals to be played at the Al Nasr Club from April 14.
The second edition of the championship is sponsored by DSC, Stadia 5, Auris Hotels, Decathlon and Aquafina.
The tournament is open to players born in 1992 and after and all participating teams are being allowed to have the services of two unregistered players on a trial basis. Matches are being played over two halves of 40 minutes each.
