Organisers confirm increased interest in upcoming Abu Dhabi multi-sport event and thank London Olympics TV coverage

Abu Dhabi Corporate Games 2012 organisers have confirmed that entries into the corporate, multi-sport event to be held in the UAE capital this November, have spiked and attribute this positive trend to the current hype and excitement surrounding "the greatest show on earth"; the Olympic Games.

The Abu Dhabi Corporate Games has been likened to the Olympic Games due to its multi-sport format, with 17 different sports on offer. However, organisers are eager to point out that the Abu Dhabi Corporate Games is for 'everyday athletes' - anyone can take part regardless of age or level of ability.

CEO, Fanny Marcout said:

“The response in recent weeks has been fantastic - and we believe that it's a direct result of the hype surrounding the Olympics in London. People are showing such a passion for sport and companies can’t wait to get involved in the Corporate Games.

It’s great to see such a focus on sport in the region right now, with UAE athlete representation in many sport disciplines of the London 2012 Olympic Games.  We are delighted that people are inspired by this and want to get involved in sport as a result.”

Companies that have signed up already include well-known names like Etihad, Mubadala GE, Standard Chartered, GHC, Sharjah Ladies Club, Al Fahim Group and Europcar as well as education institutions like Higher Colleges of Technology and Paris Sorbonne University.

Abu Dhabi Airport Services (ADAS) recently registered 55 employees to take part in the weekend sport festival, Graham Keddie, General Manager at ADAS said:

“The Abu Dhabi Corporate Games is a great concept and we are very much looking forward to playing sport and competing against other UAE companies. We have entered teams into Cricket, Soccer, Tenpin Bowling and Dragon Boat.

”There is a real excitement among our employees too, especially with the London 2012 Olympic Games being televised right now. Staff are looking forward to the Corporate Games and they want to win, which is great to see,”

The Corporate Games is a global sporting event with Games taking place in variety of countries each year including Australia, Delhi, Manila, South Africa, Bermuda and Bucharest. The most recent Corporate Games event took place in the UK 12-15 July 2012 and attracted 5000 participants.

Offering a choice of 17 popular sports, including football, cricket, tennis, tenpin bowling and basketball, teams mainly are made up of employees of businesses and organisations, as well as university students from across the UAE. Over 3000 people are expected to take part and enjoy the Games’ ‘weekend’ on 21-24 November.

Companies can enter teams into as many of the 17 sporting events as they desire whereby individual participants will compete in one sport only over the weekend. There are no restrictions applied on age, gender, disability, or overall skill level, so the event is truly open to all types of competitor.
