Puneet Mehra produced an incredible spell picking up five wickets as Interface Transworld thrashed Afridi CC by 67 runs to enter the semifinals of the 4th Al Dhaid Ramadan tournament organized by Sharjah Cricket Council.
It was a night to cherish for Mehra who exposed Afridi CC batsmen completely at the Al Dhaid Cricket Village and just needed 15 deliveries to destroy his opponents.
Afridi CC was given a challenging total of 130 to chase but found themselves in deep trouble early on. Abdullah Ahmed gave the first breakthrough sending home opener Abdul Shakoor for just four.
Mehra began the damage picking up two quick wickets. Talha Zaveri joined the party contributing his part when he struck a double.
Mehra returned and went on a rampage again bowling another brilliant spell to finish off the tail as Afridi CC were bundled out for a modest 63 in 15.3 overs.
Mohamed Zahid was the only batsman to provide a brief resistance scoring a gritty 21 from 20 deliveries consisting of three boundaries but he too could not survive Mehra’s brilliance.
Mehra gave away only one run during his 2.3 overs including a maiden while Zaveri conceded 18 runs in his four-over spell.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Interface openers did a fine job providing the right foundation. Fahad Tariq scored 21 from 15 deliveries consisting of four boundaries while Adnan Arif made a steady 32 from 33 balls including two boundaries.
Jagrit Anand and Amaan Ali took over the responsibility to add an unbroken 38 runs for the sixth wicket as Interface made a decent 130 for five in 20 overs.
