Hundreds of Dubai residents from all walks of life actively participated in “Dubai Swims”, the opening event of the 4th edition of “Dubai Pulse” that was launched at the Umm Suqueim Open Beach last weekend.
Organised by the Dubai Sports Council since 2009 as per directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the ambitious “Dubai Pulse” programme is aimed at making health a lifestyle for the residents of Dubai.
Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council has backed this programme since its launch in 2009.
Last weekend’s “Dubai Swims” witnessed participation from several hundred participants of various social and age categories from across the emirate. Under the guidance of specialists, participants had several activities lined up for them at the beach. The highlight of these activities was a game of ‘Water Rugby’ that witnessed huge participation from those present.
“It is always our endeavour at each event to introduce some new element or concept to make exercising more appealing to the participants,” explained Nasser Al Rahma from the Dubai Sports Council.
“This is our fourth year with this programme and we are eagerly looking forward to the next step of this programme,” he added.
The 4th edition of the “Dubai Pulse” programme includes seven activities to be held at strategic locations through the year all over Dubai with the final activity scheduled for April 5, 2013.
All events are being arranged under strict supervision of specialists from various clubs and physical fitness centers that have signed official memorandums with organizers Dubai Sports Council.
Several governmental departments have supported the programme including Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, RTA, Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Educational Zone, Community Development Authority, Dubai Ambulance Corporation and government and private schools.
“Dubai Pulse” is organized as per Article 7 of Dubai Sports Council’s strategic plan 2015 that is aimed at building up a comprehensive sports community while encouraging Dubai’s residents to participate in physical activities and make it a lifestyle.
On their part organizers Dubai Sports Council has ensured the “Dubai Pulse” programme has evolved over the past three years so that there is extensive participation from all spheres of society residing in Dubai.
The “Dubai Pulse” programme acquires greater significance as it has the backing of international organizations such as “Ajito Mondo” and the World Health Organization (WHO), both of whom have both classified the UAE among countries that support physical activities.
