Round five of the season 2012-2013 Abu Dhabi Football League (ADFL) proved as eventful as ever at Zayed Sports City this week. Organized by MEDIAPRO Middle East and Zayed Sports City, this year’s ADFL is providing a healthy, competitive arena for all UAE residents to enjoy regular football, as teams compete for the highly sought after title of ADFL Champions, not to mention a healthy share of the fantastic cash pot of AED 80 000.
A top two encounter in Group B saw clear daylight emerge in the division, as Emirates ID recorded their fourth consecutive victory of the season to date as they overcame early season pacesetters Al Garbiya City 3-1. Prior to round five the two leading teams were level on points and could only be separated by goal difference, a situation which added considerable significance to last Monday’s clash. Once again, Emirates ID proved too strong for their opposition as goals scored by Khalid Al Menhali (2) and Mohammed Al Atass were answered by a solo strike from Sultan Rajab. Al Garbiya’s loss was Yalla Eat Healthy’s gain as a 2-1 win over Nuclear Energy, powered by goals from Donnal O’Reilly and Erich Sutterlin, saw them leapfrog City and move into second place in the standings. Al Noor Hospital rose to third in the table thanks to a comfortable 4-1 victory over hosts ZSC, the only team in the division which is yet to record a point. Goalscorers for Al Noor Hospital were Mohammed Al Atrash (2), Mohamed Intably and Fadi. Daman and ADIB 2 shared the spoils in a pulsating 3-3 draw which ebbed and flowed from the outset. Khalid Mohamed (2) and Ahmed Al Zeben hit the target for Daman with Radmen (2) and Akram finding the back of the net for ADIB 2. In the evening’s final encounter, which proved to be the highest scoring affair of the night, Middle East United rediscovered their early season form via an impressive 5-3 win against Dr.Firas thanks to goals from Mohamed Sherif (2), Andrew (2) and Amer. Dr.Firas responded through strikes from Morer (2) and Firas. All are eagerly anticipating the next round of fixtures which will see the first installment of the season 2012-2013 ADFL reach its mid-point.
Group A leaders Higher Education maintained their impressive start to the season 2012-2013 ADFL with a convincing 6-3 victory over ADIB 1 thanks to an amazing five goal haul from Ibrahim Shaqour and a solo effort from Mohamed Rahban. ADIB 1 responded via a superb Nazar Hasaan hat-trick in what proved to be a highly eventful nine goal thriller. The key clash of the evening saw last season’s champions, Falcons A, pitched against External Police. Both teams were unbeaten to date in this year’s competition creating an intriguing context which will undoubtedly have a strong influence over the final standings in Group A. The game did not disappoint with External Police emerging as eventual 3-2 victors through strikes from Nabil Ahmed, Mohamed Darwish and Abdulsalam Saleh, a result which means that Falcons A has slipped to third in the rankings after relinquishing their undefeated status. ADNOC Distribution moved into fourth place in the standings after a hard-fought 3-2 win over Esnad (Fahad Ali 2 and Ali Abdulbari for ADNOC Distribution with Mate and Mohammed Hassan responding for Esnad). The evening’s final encounter also proved to be a tight affair with Al Shahama Stars claiming all three points as they recorded a 3-2 win over Money Makers thanks to goals scored by Lahej Saleh, Bilal Juma and Saleh Abdullah.
Next week sees a break in fixtures for National Day – “Spirit of the Union.” Action resumes on Monday 10th December at Zayed Sports City.
