Impressive victories on Monday evening gave Dubai Immigration and Dubai Customs departments places in the quarter-finals of the 2012 Dubai Government Entities Games' 8-ball pool event at the Ezone Club in Abu Hail area.

Dubai Immigration were expecting a clear slate against the Knowledge & Human Development Authority squad but came across a stiff challenge before registering a 2-1 victory that earned them a quarter-finals slot from Group C.

The Dubai Customs also ended up conceding one match-up but their 2-1 win over Dubai Municipality on Monday evening was enough to guarantee them a place in the quarter-finals from Group D.

Both Dubai Immigration and Dubai Customs departments have now emerged as one of the title favourites along with the impressive Dubai Police trio, who scored a 3-0 victory over the Dubai Health Authority squad and sealed their promotion to the quarter-finals from Group A.

The strong Dubai Civil Defence team, stung by 2-1 loss to Dubai Police in the first Group A match on Sunday evening, recovered with a 3-0 triumph over the Finance Department and looked almost certain to sail through to the next round.

Dubai Airports and the Roads & Transport Authority remained unbeaten in Group B and were to come face to face in their third and last first round match on Tuesday evening in an encounter that would decide the group winners.

Dubai Airports had little trouble in taming the Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology 3-0 on Monday evening, while the Roads & Transport Authority whitewashed the Dubai Sports Council 3-0.

Each match is contested using three separate tables where the opponents engage in race to five racks encounters. A total of 14 Dubai government enterprises are taking part in the 8-ball pool tournament.

The event is being organised by the Dubai Sports Council and has been sanctioned by the UAE Billiards & Snooker Association (UAEBSA). The main sponsor for the 8-ball pool tournament is Al Khattal Group of Companies. A total of 45,000 AED will be awarded to the top three teams.

The first round, round robin matches were to conclude on Tuesday evening with the knockout quarter-finals and semifinals taking place on Wednesday evening at the same venue.
